About The book
My senior capstone project is writing a book which follows the story of a young Irishman who travels across the ocean to New York in the 19th century.
Arlen O'Rielly faces many challenges during his adventure, including violence, 19th century nativism, internal struggles, coping with loss of friends and family. Through his struggles he must explore the boundaries of what is possible, as well as figure out who he is.

In the 1800's, the streets of New York City were run by gangs. On July 4th, 1857, the Dead Rabbits (made up of Irish Immigrants) and the Bowery Boys (made up of American Nativists) caused a two-day civil disturbance that went from a small-scale street fight to a city-wide gang war. This book highlights the growing division between these two groups, and shows how it may have escalated into the real life chaos that occurred.
